Creating value with Personal/Individual Learning Plans

When you have good assessment practices in place for both ongoing and final assessments, everyone benefits. And with the right tools, like the ILP/PLP, assignment and assessment tools in Skooler, teachers can save time and make parent-teacher conferences more effective and enjoyable (no surprises).

Assignments and assessments are much more than bookends of learning, they are integral to the learning process itself. And when they’re managed with the right tools and good practices, the entire process from creating an assignment through ongoing and final assessments can be easier for teachers and improve communications with students and parents as well.

Skooler also allows you to generate assessments directly within the ILP/PLP tool. And, with our latest Teams integration, you can now use the ILP/PLP tool as a separate tab in Teams. This means that all the functionalities that come with Skooler’s ILP/PLP tool are now available in Teams – provided you are using Teams with Skooler.*

*Teams alone cannot generate ILP/PLP features, so if you are only using Teams to generate your assignments and assessments, you must manually enter your assessments into a seperate ILP/PLP outside of Teams.

Make the most of assessments

Once an assessment is published in Skooler’s assignment or quiz tool it can automatically be available in Skooler’s ILP/PLP tool. From there, teachers can use it to track students ongoing educational development. They can easily generate progress reports using prior assessments, comments and reviews. Once created they can be viewed as “status per student” or “status per subject,” making it easy to keep track of student’s overall progress.

Keep parents informed (without extra work)

With all assessments in Skooler’s ILP/PLP, students and parents can access the information the teacher has chosen to share with them. For teachers, having one easy place for ongoing feedback review adds much deeper context when it’s time for doing summative assessments at the end of the project, unit or semester. For students and parents, having access to clear and consistent sharing of information about student status and progress in the ILP/PLP throughout the learning process helps reduce surprises when it’s parent-teacher conference time. And it helps parents be more engaged in their own child’s learning plans.

Sharing among teachers creates more cohesive learning

Teachers often have more than one subject and students often have more than one teacher. Skooler makes it easy for teachers to share assessments among them, which creates an environment of peer-to-peer learning, saves time and helps ensure consistency. With the ability to view student progress across multiple subjects, it also allows each class teacher to see a fuller picture of how each student is doing and to identify possible ways to improve the student’s motivation. For example, if a student is excelling in biology, but struggling with math, it could be a cue for the math teacher to consider assignments that draw on nature for story problems or to help the student understand why certain calculations are made.

Creating individual learning plans is a snap

ILP/PLPs are often mandatory, so creating one shouldn’t be a hurdle to jump. When teachers have to export or enter information manually into a student’s ILP/PLP, it takes time and focus away from what teachers do best – teaching. With Skooler’s assignment and assessment features, the ILP/PLP is always up to date without any additional work.

Establishing good assessment practices is key to effective teaching and meaningful learning. If you are using Teams in conjunction with Skooler, using Skooler’s assignment and assessment tools will help you implement good assessment practices while keeping the ILP/PLP up to date automatically, helping you stay organized, students see their progress and parents stay engaged all along the way.
